IQS News

This year's news on activities of our Joint Lab and open positions.

Summer excursion in Hamburg with jDPG

Our Laser system team took part in an eventful get-together organized by „Die junge DPG“ in Hamburg. During the event, lectures, lab tours and excursions through the DESY campus led by the Quantum Gases group, including a visit to the Petra III and HERA circles have been on the agenda and spawned interesting conversations and connections. During the student talks, we presented our work at IQS, mainly focusing on the progress of the AeroQGrav project – an airborne gravimeter.

Quantum Berlin goes USA!

We join the delegation of Quantum Berlin visiting the Quantum World Congress in Washington D.C.! Main focus of this delegation trip is to connect Berlin-based quantum technology companies with their US counterparts.

Falling Walls Lab Berlin-Adlershof

Under the motto „Great minds, 3 minutes, 1 day“ 16 participants fought to receive one of the few spots for the international Falling Walls Science Summit to present their work. For IQS, K. Vardhan presented his wall-breaking topic of muscle activity measurements – Great job!

Kick-off of the Berlin Quantum Alliance and Leap Opening

We participated in the Kick-off of the Berlin Quantum Alliance and support the new Berlin QT Innovation Hub „Leap“.

New IQS case study published by Liquid Instruments

Our team published a case study together with Liquid Instruments highlighting the use of the Moku:Pro instrument for optical atomic clocks.

IQS Group retreat 2023

This year’s group retreat took us to Prenden (Brandenburg) and Bernau (Berlin) for a day full of hiking and adventure mini-golfing. Find some pictures in our gallery.

Ph.D. thesis defence

Congratulations to J. Pahl to the successful completion of the doctoral degree!
Thesis title: „Atominterferometric experiments with Bose-einstein condensates in microgravity“

IQS hosting an INSQT Workshop

The third INSQT Workshop on Space Quantum Internet is hosted by our group! It focusses on developing global quantum networks and especially on enabling technologies and key components.

New Bachelor thesis / Master thesis / Studentische Hilfskraft (SHK) position available

We are looking for highly motivated students to work in an ultra-cold atom experiment which acts as a test-bed for developing micro-integrated technologies and for quantum memories. More details can be found in the open positions section.

New position available

We are looking for a research assistant (Ph.D. / postDoc) for the BMBF flagship project AeroQGrav. Within this project, a gravimeter for use onboard an airplane is to be built, for which we provide the autonomously working laser system. Find details for application in our open position section and the webpage of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

IQS at ICOLS 2023

Our Matter wave team is in Estes Park, Colorado at ICOLS 2023 and presenting our latest results on atom interferometry on long time-scales in microgravity. The conference is a get-together of the laser spectroscopy, matter wave and quantum technology communities, providing a great venue for networking.

IQS at CLEO Europe and Laser World of Photonics 2023

Our Enabling Technology team is at CLEO/Laser München. We present our latest results on microintegrated optical dipole traps and are invited to the QUANTUM Breakfast organized by Berlin Partner.

IQS at INSQT Workshop 2023

Our Atomic Quantum Memories in Space and Miniaturization teams have been invited to give talks during a workshop hosted by The International Network in Space Quantum Technologies (INSQT). The workshop has been a productive environment to connect and brainstorm on space-related quantum technologies and missions. Find some impressions of our speakers in the conferences gallery!

Stay tuned for the next INSQT workshop on the Space Quantum Internet, hosted by us in august!

IQS at CLEO 2023

Our Atomic Quantum Memories in Space team represented their latest results on long-lived quantum memories in microgravity at the CLEO 2023. Find some impressions in the conferences gallery!
